Jurassic World Dominion IMAX Trailer Review
A 5 minute teaser for Jurassic World: Dominion is playing exclusively with IMAX showings of Fast 9. I was able to see the extended tease this past weekend and it does a great job of getting you excited for the Colin Trevorrow sequel.
The first few minutes of the footage starts 65 million years ago – when dinosaurs roamed the earth. This is something we have never seen in a Jurassic adventure, and it delivers on the promises of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Numerous kinds of dinosaurs are shown interacting, and battling, in their time.
It then cuts to today and how the T-Rex is dealing with the modern world. A helicopter chases the beast as it ends up smashing through a drive in movie theater. Obviously, the dinosaurs and humans aren’t coexisting and that will be a major part of Jurassic World III.
Positives:
- The documentary style approach to seeing the dinosaurs millions of years ago is interesting. The quiet and pace of that first few minutes is a nice contrast to what we have seen in the series so far. You get an idea of what an immersive film Dominion is going to be.
- The shots of the T-Rex wreaking havoc on a drive in theater is a lot of fun. It reminds me of when the T-Rex rampages through the city in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. I’ve always loved the finale of The Lost World and it really seems like Colin Trevorrow captured the tone and energy of that climax.
Negatives:
- I really love the glimpse of 65 million years ago. It does look very CGI however. The T-Rex in modern day, when contrasted with real world elements, looks spectacular. The dinosaur era portion doesn’t quite rise above looking very computer generated.
In Closing:
The teaser does exactly what it sets out to do, it makes you want to watch Jurassic World: Dominion. I wasn’t a huge fan of Fallen Kingdom and I think this film has the potential to right some of the last Jurassic World’s wrongs. I am incredibly excited to see Jurassic World: Dominion when it opens in theaters next summer.
