Review: Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park opened 25 Years ago today. The adventure film was based on the Michael Crichton bestselling novel. Jurassic Park was directed by Steven Spielberg.

Synopsis:

John Hammond has found a way to bring dinosaurs back to life. He wants to open a theme park that will allow families to enjoy the return of the extinct creatures. A team of experts is invited to the Jurassic Park Island to investigate how safe the idea is. When things go terribly wrong—the group discovers it may have been best to leave dinosaurs in the past.

Positives:

• The action and suspense in Jurassic Park is always thrilling. Every time a dinosaur is on screen you feel the perfect mix of excitement and chills.

• The special effects are of course groundbreaking in Jurassic Park. 25 years later, they still hold up extremely well and some moments look better than what we have seen in the recent Jurassic films.

• Every character in Jurassic Park is extremely memorable and is given at least one scene to shine.

• The film is well paced and balances the story, characters and spectacle perfectly. This is largely because of Spielberg’s direction and the script.

Negatives:

• Some of the plot points and story elements are abandoned and aren’t resolved in the film.

• The story is extremely strong, but there isn’t much of a plot. It’s a very simple film with very little plot.

In Closing:

Jurassic Park is one of the greatest cinematic triumphs of all-time. The CGI effects are groundbreaking, but the film never loses sight of the importance of story and characters. It features spectacular action scenes and truly pulse pounding moments. Jurassic Park is one of the most iconic films ever made and easily one of Steven Spielberg’s greatest achievements.
