Hollywood is known for producing countless biographical films each year. While some become celebrated classics, others fail. Various factors contribute to a film's reception, including box office earnings, critical acclaim, audience responses, and award nominations. Here are five of the greatest biopics ever made. SSP prepared.

12 Years a Slave (2013)

Released in 2013, "12 Years a Slave" highlights a powerful narrative. This film is impossible not to recognize due to its stellar cast. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, and Lupita Nyong'o starred in this adaptation, directed by Steve McQueen and written by John Ridley. The movie's music, composed by Hans Zimmer, also enhances its impact. It earned three Academy Awards, confirming its broad acclaim. Notably, this film is based on Solomon Northup's 1853 memoir.

 Hidden Figures (2016)

While many know of the Space Race, fewer realize the crucial contributions of black female mathematicians at NASA. The 2016 film "Hidden Figures" dramatically showcases these unsung heroes. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe, the film received high praise. It garnered nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards, marking its substantial success.

Lincoln (2012)

Daniel Day-Lewis achieved great recognition in the biopic "Lincoln" (2012), directed by Steven Spielberg. This portrayal of the 16th President concentrates on the final months of his life. It emphasizes his fight to enact the Thirteenth Amendment and end slavery. Day-Lewis's portrayal was so powerful that it earned him a third Academy Award for Best Actor, a rare achievement in the film industry.

 Ray (2004)

Jamie Foxx delivered a remarkable performance as music icon Ray Charles in the film "Ray" (2004). His compelling portrayal earned him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award. Sadly, Ray Charles participated in the film's production before his death from liver disease. He did not see the final product, though many believe he would have celebrated its success. "Ray" continues to be regarded as one of the best biopics.

The Aviator (2004)

"The Aviator" (2004) presents a rich exploration of Howard Hughes' life. Directed by Martin Scorsese, it features a talented ensemble cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, and Alan Alda. This biopic received 11 Academy Award nominations, winning five. Although Cate Blanchett earned the only prominent award, the film is often hailed as a biographical masterpiece, highlighting its remarkable narrative.
