This list of action TV shows brims with incredible fight scenes, each making its mark in the genre through a unique blend of storytelling, character depth, and meticulously choreographed combat sequences. From superhumans to historical warriors, they offer an adrenaline-fueled, captivating escape into thrilling worlds of action-packed entertainment. This is prepared by SSP.

Arrow (2012–2020)

The CW's Arrowverse gave rise to some of the most remarkable comic book series on television, starting with Arrow in 2012. This incredible narrative delved into the origins of the Green Arrow, also known as Oliver Queen, portrayed brilliantly by Stephen Amell. Not only did Arrow follow the formula of a villain-of-the-week, but it also pushed boundaries by questioning Oliver's motivations and tactics for becoming the Arrow. In the earlier seasons, he displayed no hesitation in taking down the villains he encountered.

The Boys (2019–Present)

The Boys not only captivates audiences with its dark superhero narratives, but it also thrives on meta-irony, making it a resounding success on Amazon Prime. This series, based on the comic book of the same name, grabs attention with its unapologetic display of violent and grotesque fight scenes. However, The Boys doesn't solely rely on gore; it presents intricate fight choreography and manages to level the playing field, even between characters with overwhelmingly superhuman powers. The clashes demonstrate innovative use of their powers and result in devastating consequences.

Spartacus (2010–2013)

Spartacus revitalizes history with an exhilarating twist, captivating both history enthusiasts and action aficionados. Reminiscent of Ridley Scott's acclaimed film Gladiator, this series follows the journey of Spartacus, a man thrust into the gladiator arena, who gradually rises through the ranks while endeavoring to liberate the oppressed. Rich with tales of triumph over adversity and the tenacity of the human spirit, Spartacus never falters in its intense storytelling.

Each season of Spartacus focuses on different phases of the warrior's life. However, the first season particularly showcases some of the most exceptional one-on-one combat sequences in the entire series. As Spartacus embarks on his quest for vengeance, he realizes that even standing as the best gladiator still holds him captive. Subsequent seasons witness Spartacus assuming the mantle of a leader as he leads epic battles against the Roman armies.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997–2003)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer, growing in budget and resources as the seasons progressed, impresses with its well-executed special effects and stunts. Even in its debut season, which holds up remarkably well, the series strategically uses visual effects to portray Buffy's strength and agility. It convincingly presents her as a superhero not only through her battles with vampires and demons but also in her interactions within the larger world. This groundwork allows viewers to believe in her ability to flawlessly execute complex combat maneuvers.

Carefully crafted sound effects and dynamic set pieces lend vibrancy to the fights, pushing the boundaries of action TV for its time. While Buffy overpowering regular vampires remains a pleasure to witness, it's the battles against seemingly insurmountable odds that truly showcase the series at its finest. The season 2 finale, which culminates in a climactic showdown between Angel and Buffy, stands out as a standout moment of the early seasons.

Vikings (2013–2020)

Vikings caters to a wide audience with its display of not just individual fights, but also full-scale wars, offering historical enthusiasts their fix. From the vantage point of the invading Vikings in Western Europe and their encounters with the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings presents a mix of accurate depictions and creative storytelling surrounding Viking culture.

The conflicts in this series primarily involve Ragnar Lothbrok, a character inspired by a legendary folk hero celebrated for his physical prowess and sharp wit. The battles, teeming with historical context and intrigue, provide an exhilarating watch. In the ensuing spinoff series, Vikings: Valhalla, the stakes and tension have only escalated, ensuring a captivating experience for viewers.

Invincible (2021–Present)

Invincible stands as a prime example of groundbreaking adult animation that fearlessly explores new territories. Unlike live-action series limited by practical constraints, animation allows Invincible to elevate the intensity of its fight scenes, indulging in gory spectacle and jaw-dropping choreography. The well-crafted characters, engaging storytelling, and inventive superpowers contribute to the series' immersive atmosphere, seamlessly balancing terror and humor.

Given the immense popularity of the series, there have been calls for potential Invincible spinoffs or even live-action adaptations. However, abandoning animation would mean forsaking the visually stunning fight scenes and the incorporation of extraordinary technologies that significantly enhance the battle sequences' impact. Invincible thrives in its animated form, providing an unmatched viewing experience.

The Punisher (2017–2019)

Initially introduced in Daredevil, Frank Castle takes center stage in The Punisher as a character far removed from traditional superheroes. Portrayed by Jon Bernthal, Castle's relentless pursuit of vengeance knows no bounds, including taking lives without hesitation. This sets him apart from other Marvel characters bound by strict moral codes. In The Punisher, Castle's motivation stems from grief and personal agenda, yet his adversaries often prove to be far worse, effectively making him the lesser evil. The series skillfully manages to elicit audience support for Castle's violent crusade.

Bonus: Mrs. Davis (2023)

A nun on a quest to destroy AI, it seems like a pretty bizarre story, and it is, but it's also fantastic. Mrs. Davis is the rare kind of show that gets better and more engrossing with each passing episode, the kind of show that has a wonderful story and takes just the right amount of time to tell it, packed with action, interesting twists and engaging characters.
