Ukraine's women's freestyle wrestling team wins three medals at the 2024 European Championships
The Ukrainian women's freestyle wrestling team won three medals at Euro 2024, which is taking place in Bucharest, Romania. Alina Filipovych, Tetiana Sova-Rizhko and Anastasiia Osniach (Shustova) won silver medals. SSPDaily tells about it.
Filipovych was in the 59 kg weight category. In the gold medal fight, she lost to three-time bronze medalist of the continental championships Alena Kolesnik from Azerbaijan, 3:4.
For Alina, it was her debut performance at the European Championships and, accordingly, her first award at this level.
Sova-Rizhko became the silver medalist of the European Championships in the weight class of 68 kg. In the final match, she was defeated by the current world champion Buse Tosun from Turkey, 2:5.
Tetiana won her fourth career medal at the continental championship. She became the European champion in 2022 (weight up to 65 kg).
Osniach (Shustova) won silver in the weight class of 76 kg. In the finals, she lost to the reigning European champion and 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Yasemin Adar from Turkey, 1:10.
This is Anastasiia's first career medal at a continental championship.
Thus, the Ukrainian national wrestling team already has seven medals at Euro 2024: 4 silver and 3 bronze.
Earlier, four awards were won by Greco-Roman wrestlers: Oleksandr Hrushyn (up to 63 kg) won silver, and Zhan Beleniuk (up to 87 kg), Parviz Nasibov (up to 72 kg) and Yaroslav Filchakov (up to 82 kg) won bronze.
