Disney Shows First Sneak Peek Of Upcoming 'Lilo & Stitch'
Disney has given a first glimpse of the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch at D23, with the film set for a summer 2025 theatrical release. While a specific date was not confirmed, Disney's calendar has open slots on May 23 and August 8, 2025. The original animated movie, released in 2002, directed and written by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, told the story of a 6-year-old girl named Lilo and her sister Nani in Hawaii, who adopt an alien creature named Stitch. This is prepared by SSP.
In the live-action adaptation, Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo Pelekai, with Sydney Agudong playing Nani. The mischievous alien Stitch is brought to life via CGI. Chris Sanders reprises his role as the voice of Stitch, accompanied by Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, and Courtney B. Vance as Lilo's social worker. Tia Carrere, the original voice of Nani, returns as Mrs. Kekoa, while Amy Hill reprises her role as Tūtū, joined by Jason Scott Lee as David Kawena.
The movie is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, known for *Marcel the Shell with Shoes On*, with the script written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, based on a draft by Mike Van Waes. Producers include Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, with Ryan Halprin serving as executive producer.
Related spin-offs like 'Stitch! The Movie,' 'Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch,' 'Leroy & Stitch,' and 'Lilo & Stitch: The Series,' which ran from 2003 to 2006, have set the stage for this highly anticipated adaptation. Originally planned for Disney+, the live-action movie shifted to a full theatrical release, promising a fresh new take on Lilo's relationship with her extraterrestrial companion, Stitch.
