Ready or Not Sequel Officially in Production
Ready or Not 2 is officially happening, with actress Samara Weaving and the film-making team known as Radio Silence, comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella, reuniting for the sequel to their hit 2019 dark comedy horror movie. As reported at a Searchlight Pictures screening celebrating the original film, Ready or Not, the news comes without specific plot details but with the knowledge that the screenwriters, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, will return to create the new script. The first film, starring Weaving as a bride who uncovers her new family’s deadly wedding night ritual tied to a diabolical ancient deal, was a critical and commercial success. This is prepared by SSP.
The actress expressed her enthusiasm for the return to ComicBook.com, noting how much the entire team is excited about the sequel. This sequel stands as a turning point for Radio Silence, along with Weaving, enhancing their careers and contributing to their subsequent involvement in noteworthy films like Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), as well as the comedy Universal's Abigail. Similarly, Weaving has continued to build her resume with roles in films such as Bill & Ted Face the Music and Babylon.
Crafted on a humble $6 million budget, Ready or Not surprised many by raking in over $28 million domestically, becoming Searchlight's most expansive release at the time. Its rich blend of suspense, social commentary, and gruesome entertainment resonated with critics and remains a hit on home screens.
Both Radio Silence and Weaving are represented by acclaimed agencies, with Radio Silence signed with UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Weaving with CAA and 111 Media. COM notification goes out today not only to mark the sequel’s conception but also part of a homage to Searchlight’s 30th anniversary as it continues film legacy with a curated screening series.
