Phil Foden departs England camp for arrival of third child
Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has temporarily left the England national team's Euro 2024 camp in Germany to return to the UK for the birth of his third child, SSP reported. The Football Association has emphasized the pressing family matter that necessitated Foden's departure.
Pending any complications, Foden is expected to rejoin the squad by Sunday, just in time for England's last-16 match against Slovakia, scheduled for 17:00 BST. This decision acknowledges the significance of being present for the birth and supports Foden's commitment to both his family and national team duties.
The announcement follows an Instagram post made in April by Foden and his partner, Rebecca Cooke, where they shared the news of their expected addition. The couple already has two children, son Ronnie, who is five years old, and daughter True, who is two.
Having accumulated 37 caps, Foden played a pivotal role on the field during all three of England's group matches in the ongoing tournament, including the recent draw against Slovenia. Gareth Southgate's team claimed the top spot in Group C with five points from three encounters.
The last-16 fixture will take place in Gelsenkirchen, and England's opponent for the match will be determined once the final group games conclude on Wednesday. Foden's return to the squad would undoubtedly add strength to the English midfield and bolster their prospects in the upcoming match.
