Substrate

When rooting a violet leaf, it is very important to maintain the stability of the substrate without relying on additional supports such as foam. A shortened violet cutting holds well enough in the soil to allow it to take root without assistance. Interestingly, the length of the cutting does not affect the number of "children" or the survival rate of the flower.

It is important not to use too nutritious soil. Choose a loose substrate that provides adequate aeration and moisture retention.

Cup with drainage holes

First, collect all the roots in a plastic cup with drainage holes and another cup without holes to serve as a container for collecting water. This will help prevent water from leaking to the surface. In addition, it is important to use a proper drainage system. You can purchase special drainage materials from the store or use small pieces of foam or pebbles as an alternative.

Humidity

To create effective greenhouse conditions, use a transparent plastic bag. This will ensure the ideal level of humidity and promote optimal root development.

Two ways to root violets

The first method is that you take a leaf and make a clean cut with a sharp knife. Place the cutting in a glass of water, making sure that the leaf plate remains above the surface of the water to prevent rotting. After about two weeks, the first signs of roots will begin to appear on the cutting. At this stage, when the roots reach about 1-1.5 cm in length, you can transplant them into loose soil.

The second method involves using a pre-moistened substrate. Rub the substrate between your palms to create the perfect texture, and then place it in a cup with drainage holes. Plant the cutting and press it lightly into the soil to keep it in place.

Greenhouse conditions

Cover the pot with a plastic bag to create a makeshift greenhouse. After about two weeks, roots will appear. After a month, when the leaf is well rooted, you can remove the plastic bag.
