First, keep the "new" one in a separate room
The first impression that both pets make on each other is very important.
If both cats show aggression right away, it can affect their future relationship. Therefore, it is best to keep them in different rooms at first.
Create a subtle presence
Keep them separate. However, both cats should be able to smell and hear each other.
Create individual conditions for them: separate food and water bowls, a bed, a toilet, and a scratching post. However, feed them both near the door that separates them. This will gradually bring the animals closer together.
Switch the cats around
Cats don't communicate visually but rather through their sense of smell. Therefore, you first need them to exchange smells. To do this, switch them around so they can explore each other's scent and territory.
You can also use the same towel to rub both cats separately, mix their scents, and then let them explore the towel.
Let the cats see each other
Once you're sure there is no aggression between the two cats, start introducing them.
Put them in a place separated by a transparent barrier where they can see each other. Call their names and throw them treats.
Over the next few days, continue to encourage feeding and play until the animals feel comfortable around each other.
Allow cats to spend time together
The last step in the adaptation process is to allow the cats to spend time together but without a barrier.
If they start to fight, keep a squirt bottle handy to separate them.
However, if everything is peaceful and your cats are already used to each other, let them spend as much time together as possible.
