Keys for Good and Bad Luck
There’s something nostalgic about skeleton keys. Observant individuals may notice these keys have become a decorative feature in some homes, where people hang old iron keys or display them. Why do they do this? Mainly because old keys are considered good luck. Keeping old keys around doesn't hurt, as even now, there's a belief in their lucky charms.
In the past, keys were primarily made of iron and have long been associated with good fortune. It’s believed that touching a key when feeling endangered can bring safety, as keys were thought to protect you. Personally, I find myself holding onto my keys for comfort in fearful situations. Besides, jangling keys could be used to ward off evil spirits. Another protective practice involved placing a key under a sleeping child's pillow to ensure safety.
However, keys also carry bad luck superstitions. Dropping keys is seen as bad luck, breaking them is even worse, and losing keys is ominous, often foreshadowing disaster or death. Moreover, finding a rusted key is interpreted as a lucky sign, indicating an imminent inheritance.
