Scientists have given the exact answer: how often do you need to wash the floor and vacuum
In today's world, there is very little time left for frequent house cleaning. That's why most Ukrainians vacuum and mop their floors once a week. This was reported by SSPDaily.
What you know about dust: why you need to clean it up
What people call dust is actually solid particles that range in size from 10 to 0.01 microns. When they are smaller than 10 microns, they can move freely in space. It is this dust floating in the air that we can see clearly on sunny days. Once the dust reaches a size of about 50 microns, it begins to settle on various surfaces.
Dust does not appear on its own either. Although you might often think so. It is formed from feathers, dandruff, wool - from the activities of pets and humans. You should also add particles of midges and insects that hover over food in the kitchen or in other rooms over plants. Dust can also be formed from fragments of human skin and hair, from particles of fiberglass, nylon, paper, fabrics - all of which we use in everyday life.
The most unpleasant thing about this is that dust mites live in dust, which are so small that they are almost invisible to the human eye. They live in every apartment or private house. Their waste is considered very dangerous for humans.
Another danger lies in the fact that dust particles can absorb almost any substance that can get into the room. Therefore, they often contain almost the entire periodic table.
How often to clean: what scientists say
Scientists have conducted a separate study that examined the condition of several thousand apartments. The analysis showed that wet cleaning can indeed significantly reduce the amount of dust particles flying in the air. However, after three days, their number returns to its original value.
That is, according to the study, you need to clean your apartment or house twice a week. And cleaning includes using a vacuum cleaner, mopping the floor, and dusting all surfaces. This is especially important when small children and pets live in the house.
Why you shouldn't mop or vacuum every day
According to microbiologist Jason Tetrault, you shouldn't get too carried away with cleaning and declare war on all the microorganisms that live in your home. This is because only people with very weakened immune systems need to live in sterile conditions. For everyone else, the presence of a small particle of germs in the ambient air is even beneficial.
This rule is especially true for children. After all, this is how their body teaches the immune system to face various factors of external threats and respond to them correctly.
Expert recommendations for cleaning
- It is recommended to change bedding at least once a week, but in extreme cases, once every two weeks. Pillowcases on pillows should be changed more often if possible.
- Sinks are disinfected and cleaned daily, even if they look clean. Once a week - treatment with special products.
