What countries eat the most and what are the risks: top 5
In a study conducted at Oxford University, 94 percent of countries consume more food than recommended. The ranking was based on the daily calorie intake of the United Nations (UN) member states.
According to the OurWorldInData report, 173 out of 184 countries had people consuming more than the recommended 2000-2500 calories per day (this applies to both women and men). The data used were calculated based on the average amount of food purchased by each household, SSPDaily reports.
The first place is occupied by Bahrain with 4 thousand 12 calories, the second is the United States with 3 thousand 868 calories, followed by Ireland with 3 thousand 850 calories, the 4th place is Belgium with 3 thousand 824 calories and the 5th place is Turkey with 3 thousand 762.
The study also found that in Bahrain, which tops the list, 4 out of 10 adults are obese.
According to the authors of the ranking, excessive food consumption is caused by reasons such as unproductive sleep patterns, long hours of work, exposure to light pollution, and a stressful lifestyle.
Currently, 1 billion people worldwide are obese. The study data was obtained from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
