Why it's better to cut bell peppers upside down
When it comes to bell peppers, being efficient in the kitchen is key. These colorful and versatile veggies are packed with sweetness and numerous seeds, which can sometimes create a mess when slicing into them. That's why we were intrigued when we came across a TikTok trick that claims to offer a better way to cut bell peppers.
With over 9.9 million views and counting, this hack has caught the attention of many. Blogger Lori Conway, known as theloriconway, shared her method, which promises a quick and clean approach to cutting bell peppers. We put it to the test and must say, it did not disappoint.
Traditionally, most people slice bell peppers stem-side up, either in half or by trimming the flat sides. However, according to Conway, it's time to flip the pepper and change our routine. Here's how it's done:
- Begin by removing just the stem of the bell pepper, ensuring to preserve the rest of the pepper intact.
- Place the bell pepper stem-side down on a cutting board and use a knife to cut through the three or four grooves that descend between the rounded ends. These cuts should resemble a peace sign.
- Carefully pull each of the sections apart, snapping them off individually.
By following these steps, you should now have three or four seed-free bell pepper pieces. The seeds and membranes will remain connected to the stem end, allowing for easy disposal. In case you notice any stray flesh on the top, remove it before slicing and using the pepper. Be sure to compost the remaining part, employing caution to catch any lingering seeds.
So, the next time you're faced with a bell pepper, consider flipping it over for a stress-free and seed-free cutting experience. Enjoy the ease and simplicity of this effective kitchen hack!
