Will bloom like crazy: gardeners advise what food from the table to give orchids as fertilizer
In the SSPDaily, experienced gardeners shared their secret to making orchids bloom lushly throughout the summer.
The most important thing, experts say, is to create the right night temperature. The fact is that orchids are subtropical plants that are used to the fact that the temperature cools down quite a bit at night. If you try to reduce it by 5-6 degrees Celsius, this will help stimulate rapid flowering.
What can be done? First of all, try moving the orchid pot to a room that is much cooler but not windy at night. You can also open a window in the room where these subtropical plants are kept so that they can enjoy the humidity and freshness.
If you are unable to open a window or take the orchid to another room, you can use a fan. By creating a cool stream of air, you will force the orchid to release its flower stalks.
The gardeners also shared a secret product from the kitchen that can be used to feed the orchid. The recipe is very simple:
- grate or cut potatoes into small pieces (do not peel the skin), boil them for a few minutes;
- add sliced bananas and a small amount of sugar to the potatoes.
The resulting fertilizer should be stored in a closed jar, and diluted with water and poured under the root immediately before fertilizing.
