Joining him in qualification were Kenny Bednarek, who finished second with 9.87 seconds, and Fred Kerley, the Tokyo 2020 silver medallist, who secured third place with a time of 9.88 seconds.
Reflecting on his victory, Lyles expressed his determination and spoke about how three years ago, he had finished second to last, whereas now, he emerged triumphant. In the semi-finals, Lyles even clocked an impressive time of 9.80 seconds, although it was wind-assisted. He attributed his success to his unwavering focus on the goal he had set for himself.
Lyles, who earned a bronze medal in the 200m event during the Tokyo Olympics, revealed how his achievement in Japan fueled his desire to continue striving for success. A notable breakthrough came in the 400m race when 16-year-old Quincy Wilson shattered his own under-18 world record with an impressive time of 44.59 seconds, earning him qualification from the semi-finals.
With the Olympics scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August, the men's 100m final will be a highly anticipated event set to occur on 4 August.
