Ange Postecoglou Dismayed by Spurs’ Collapse Against Brighton
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou expressed his profound disappointment after Spurs' collapse against Brighton in the Premier League, describing it as "probably the worst defeat since I've been here," BBC reported. Despite leading 2-0 with goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison after 37 minutes, Spurs conceded three times in the second half, allowing Brighton to claim victory. Postecoglou was upset by the team's second-half performance, describing it as unacceptable and out of character with their usual competitive spirit.
This defeat meant Spurs missed the opportunity to move to sixth in the Premier League standings, instead remaining ninth with a record of three wins, one draw, and three losses. Postecoglou criticized the mentality and spirit of his team, suggesting they had run into complacency and lost their competitive edge.
Maddison, scoring his second goal of the season after missing out on England squad selection, remarked on how the loss was a setback after a series of five wins. He acknowledged Brighton's strong play and admitted Spurs lost momentum and control after Brighton's first goal and couldn't handle the sustained pressure.
Brighton advanced to sixth, and their manager Fabian Hurzeler commented on his team's deserving win, highlighting their resilience and control in crucial duels. While recognizing areas for defensive improvement, Hurzeler praised his players' work against adversity. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, despite the challenges.
