Brentford Secures £27.5m Deal For Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool has struck a £27.5 million agreement to transfer Fabio Carvalho to Brentford, inclusive of add-ons. Reuters correspondent Paul Joyce and Portuguese outlet A Bola reported on this deal, verifying that Liverpool secured a 17.5% sell-on clause for any future profit Brentford may make from Carvalho. Carvalho’s time at Liverpool saw a total payment of about £7 million. Consequently, Fulham stands to gain around £3.1 million if Liverpool realizes the full value of the Brentford deal. Initially sought after by Southampton, their £15 million offer was declined as it did not meet Liverpool's valuation.

During Liverpool's pre-season tour in the United States, Carvalho showcased his skills by scoring in victories against Arsenal and Manchester United. However, his chances of securing a regular first-team position were deemed limited upon the return of Liverpool's key players following the Euro 2024 and Copa America tournaments.

Carvalho's stint away from Anfield saw a mixed performance. In the first half, he played for RB Leipzig, where he faced limited pitch time with only three starts. Mid-season, he transitioned to Hull City in the Championship, making a significant impact by scoring nine goals in 20 appearances. While playing mostly as a false nine, his contribution added value to a team striving for play-offs, despite the ultimate team difficulties and a managerial change.

Ultimately, Carvalho’s pre-season this year was somewhat flourishing, having started in all of Liverpool's four friendlies. Yet, this latest move to Brentford marks the end of his time in a Red shirt, despite a notable debut season where he scored a memorable late winner against Newcastle during his sixth appearance for the club.

Although he managed to exhibit potential, both his loan performance and pre-season weren’t sufficient to guarantee a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s (if preferred) settings over other seasoned team members.
