Bruno Fernandes Signs New Manchester United Contract Until June 2027
Bruno Fernandes has committed his future to Manchester United by signing a new contract that extends his stay at Old Trafford until 30 June 2027, with an option for an additional year, Manchester United reported.
Since he arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £47 million, Fernandes has established himself as a key player for United, scoring 79 goals and recording 67 assists in 234 appearances. His consistent performances have also seen him win three Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards and create more chances than any other Premier League player within that timeframe.
"Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United," Fernandes said. "I can see how positive the future is going to be and I am relishing leading this team forward. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club." Reflecting on his memorable moments with the club, he mentioned hearing his name sung by the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team on European nights at Old Trafford, and lifting trophies at Wembley.
He continued, "I wouldn't have signed this contract if I didn't believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come. From my discussions with the football leadership and manager, it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead."
Fernandes took over the captaincy from Harry Maguire in July 2023 and quickly became a central figure in Erik ten Hag's squad, despite criticism from former United captains such as Gary Neville and Roy Keane. Rumors of a possible transfer were dispelled when an irresistible offer for Fernandes did not materialize, allowing him to focus on his ambitions with United.
Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth praised Fernandes' influence, stating, "Bruno has performed at such a high level with remarkable consistency since he arrived at Manchester United. His dedication to the club epitomizes what it takes to be a United player. He remains pivotal to everything that we want to achieve here, and we look forward to working together to deliver the success that this club demands."
Fernandes' new contract secures his critical role in the team for the foreseeable future, with both the club and the player expressing optimism and commitment to achieving their high ambitions together.
