Cavendish's Career Concludes at Singapore Criterium

Mark Cavendish, the renowned cyclist known as the "Manx Missile," is set to make his final professional appearance at the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium on November 9-10, The Straits Times reported.  Although he has not announced his retirement publicly, Cavendish, 39, will not compete in another Tour de France after securing a record-breaking 35th stage victory in July. Originally intending to retire at the end of the 2023 season, he extended his career to surpass Eddy Merckx's stage win record, which he shared with the legendary Belgian since 2021, marking his success in Saint Vulbas that July.

Cavendish's storied career, which began in 2005, features 165 race wins, including the 2011 world road title and an Olympic silver medal in the omnium at Rio 2016. Receiving his knighthood at Windsor Castle in October 2023, he committed to fulfilling his 2024 race plan, signaling the upcoming Singapore event as his career's conclusion, according to race organizers.

In Singapore, the event will feature nine professional teams, with top cyclists such as Chris Froome, Vincenzo Nibali, and Primoz Roglic, the latter two joining under TDF Legends. The prestigious 2.3km route will wind through notable landmarks starting from Connaught Drive. Local cyclists, including national champion Yeo Boon Kiak, will also race, with Tong Khoon Fung expressing excitement about competing alongside the world's best riders. The event promises a grand cycling festival, showcasing another vibrant chapter of Cavendish’s illustrious journey and a remarkable gathering of cycling legends.
