Dubois Poised to Tackle Usyk in the Next Big Fight
Promoter Frank Warren strongly believes IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois has the potential to dominate the division. Dubois dramatically claimed his title after surprising veteran Anthony Joshua with a remarkable victory. Despite heavy rain dampening Wembley Stadium, it couldn't diminish the celebration of what was surely Dubois's career highlight. Warren aspires to see Dubois face off against the WBO, WBA, and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk once more, Sky Sports reported.
Previously, Dubois fought Usyk in August 2023, with the Ukrainian claiming victory through a ninth-round stoppage. Elevated to IBF champion shortly after Usyk vacated the belt in June – soon after Usyk's historic and victorious bout against Tyson Fury – Dubois now stands more prepared than ever before.
Warren is optimistic: "Daniel Dubois has physically and mentally matured. Saturday night's performance showcased his potential. While there is a clause in Joshua's contract for a rematch, we must consider the possibility and discuss it further," he told BBC 5 Live.
Dubois, 27, showcased an extraordinary display of boxing skill against Joshua. Surpassing expectations, he showcased relentless aggression and strategy, suggesting his steady jabs and decisive right crosses are rapidly refining. Despite Joshua's usual command of the ring, Dubois seized control, driving Joshua into defensive mode.
During their previous encounter, some controversy surrounded Dubois and Usyk's 2023 clash, particularly in the fifth round. A blow from Dubois knocked Usyk down but was deemed a low blow, giving Usyk nearly four minutes to recover. Warren reflected, "Dubois lost his composure. At that stage, his inexperience showed. But now he's more savvy in the ring, much more resilient, and demonstrated that on Saturday night."
While Usyk observed from ringside at Wembley as preparations continue for his forthcoming rematch with Fury, there's considerable enthusiasm to rewatch the rejuvenated Dubois challenge Usyk again. With maturity, strength, and increased ring awareness, Warren firmly believes Dubois possesses all the tools required to transform the heavyweight division.
