James Rodríguez Joins Rayo Vallecano
Rayo Vallecano has announced the signing of former Real Madrid and Everton midfielder James Rodríguez, marking his return to La Liga. The Colombian joins as a free agent after leaving Brazilian side São Paulo earlier this summer. This is prepared by SSP.
James Rodríguez, 33, was named the best player at the 2024 Copa América, where he set a record with six assists. Despite his efforts, Colombia lost to Argentina in the final. He previously played for Real Madrid from 2014 to 2020, although he spent two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich during this period.
Rayo Vallecano, currently sitting in eighth place in La Liga, is celebrating its centenary season. Rodríguez embodies the club's values of bravery, courage, and nobility. The club considers him their "star signing" and is excited for the achievements they can reach together.
James's career began in Colombia with Envigado in 2006, before moving to Argentina’s Banfield in 2008, becoming the youngest foreign player to debut and score in the Argentine first division. In 2010, he joined Portuguese club Porto alongside fellow Colombians Radamel Falcao and Freddy Guarín. After three seasons, he moved to Monaco from 2012 to 2014.
Joining Real Madrid marked a pinnacle in his career, highlighted by winning the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup. Post-Madrid, he spent time on loan at Bayern Munich and later joined Everton in 2020 under Carlo Ancelotti. Rodríguez moved to Qatari club Al Rayyan in 2021, then joined Olympiakos in 2022, and played for São Paulo in 2023 before returning to Spain.
Rayo Vallecano, having started this season with a win and a draw after finishing 17th last season, believe James's acquisition aligns perfectly with their vision for growth and success in their 100th year.
