Jurgen Klopp Appointed Red Bull's Global Head of Soccer
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will soon take on a new role as the global head of soccer operations at Red Bull, Sky Sports reported. Set to begin on January 1, 2025, Klopp will oversee strategic roles for clubs such as RB Leipzig, Salzburg, and New York, all part of Red Bull's broad sports portfolio.
Reflecting on his appointment, Klopp expressed renewed excitement: "After nearly 25 years on the sidelines, engaging in a project like this is thrilling." While he will not engage in daily operations, Klopp will focus on big-picture strategies, involving playing philosophy, transfer strategies, and mentoring coaches across the Red Bull clubs.
Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of corporate projects and investments at Red Bull, praised Klopp as an influential figure in the global football scene, predicting that his involvement will significantly impact the company's soccer ambitions. Notably, Klopp's contract carries an exit clause permitting him to manage the German national team if the opportunity arises.
Klopp's illustrious managerial journey began at Mainz in 2001, and he is renowned for his prolific years with Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, where he secured numerous titles, including the Premier League, Champions League, and several domestic cups. With Red Bull's diverse investments, spanning hockey, motorsports, and two Formula 1 teams, Klopp's role marks their expanded focus on international soccer. A dedicated news conference is expected to officially introduce Klopp’s appointment in mid-January.
