This is prepared by SSP.
Main Ingredients:
- 1 ¼ pounds lean ground beef (or 2 lbs, if preferred)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 package (1.25-ounce) taco seasoning
- ¼ cup water or beer
- 2 teaspoons hot sauce (optional)
- 12 hard taco shells (or 12 small flour tortillas)
- 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese (or shredded cheddar cheese)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For Serving:
- Pico de gallo
- Avocado
- Sour cream
- Salsa
- Cilantro
- Shredded lettuce
- Lime wedges
- Diced tomato
- Additional diced onion
Instructions
1. Heat oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the ground beef, crumbling as it cooks, around 3 to 5 minutes. Drain excess fat.
2. Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook until translucent, approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant, around 1 minute.
3. Mix in taco seasoning, refried beans (if desired), tomato sauce, water or beer, and hot sauce. Cook, stirring occasionally until the flavors have blended, 2 to 3 minutes.
4. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish or coat it with nonstick spray.
5. Arrange taco shells upright in the prepared baking dish. Bake in preheated oven until crispy, about 3 to 4 minutes.
6. Fill each taco shell with approximately 1/4 cup of the beef mixture and top generously with shredded cheese.
7. Return the dish to the oven and bake until the cheese has melted, usually 4 to 5 minutes (or up to 15 minutes if using flour tortillas).
8. Serve immediately with your preferred toppings such as pico de gallo, avocado, sour cream, salsa, cilantro, shredded lettuce, lime wedges, diced tomato, and additional diced onion as desired.
