PSG Signs Benfica Midfielder Joao Neves For $76m
Joao Neves, the 19-year-old Portuguese international, has signed a five-year contract with PSG after a breakout season with Benfica. Despite interest from Manchester United and several rejected bids, the Portuguese standout elected to join the French champions. Neves made 75 appearances and scored four goals for Benfica's first team, breaking into the squad in January of the previous year and becoming a key performer for his boyhood club. This is prepared by SSP.
The initial transfer fee for Neves is €67 million (£50m), but it could escalate to €70 million (£60m) with add-ons. His signing comes as PSG looks to regroup following Kylian Mbappe's summer departure to Real Madrid.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG president, praised Neves as one of the most talented players both in Portugal and internationally, citing his passion and competitive spirit as fitting characteristics for the club.
Caped nine times by Portugal, Neves contributed to his national team’s European Championship campaign, helping them reach the quarter-finals this summer.
Expressing pride and ambition, Neves said, "I am joining a very ambitious club. I will give my all to help my teammates, to grow with this fantastic team, and to win numerous titles."t.
