The Best Homemade Beef Burger
This is prepared by SSP.
Ingredients:
- 750g Coles Finest Carbon Neutral Beef Mince
- 70g (1 cup) fresh breadcrumbs (day-old bread)
- 1 large brown onion (grated)
- 1/4 cup fresh continental parsley (chopped)
- 2 garlic cloves (crushed) - 1 egg (lightly whisked)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce - 2 tsp Tabasco sauce (optional)
- 2 tbsp olive oil - 6 hamburger buns (halved)
- 150g Coles Cheddar Cheese (thinly sliced)
- 80ml (1/3 cup) American mustard (optional)
- 6 lettuce leaves
- 450g (about 3 medium) ripe tomatoes (sliced)
- Tomato sauce (to serve)
Method
Step 1: Layer a tray with baking paper. Combine beef mince, breadcrumbs, grated onion, parsley, garlic, whisked egg, Worcestershire sauce, and optional Tabasco in a large bowl. Mix with your hands until just blended.
Step 2: Cut the mixture into 6 portions and shape into patties about 10cm in diameter and 1.5cm thick. If following alternative recipe, use 500g mince and shape into 4 patties each roughly 3cm thick.
Step 3: Lay the patties on the prepared tray, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to rest and firm up.
Step 4: Use half the olive oil to heat a large non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Cook half of the patties for approximately 4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Repeat with remaining oil and patties. For barbequing, heat the grill to medium-hot, lightly brush patties with vegetable oil, and cook for 5 minutes on each side.
Step 5: Preheat the grill on high. Toast hamburger buns, cut-side up, for 1 minute until golden. For barbecue, toast buns cut-side down on the rack for 1 minute until lightly charred.
Step 6: Top grilled buns and patties with cheddar cheese and grill for 1 minute until melted. Layer the toasted bun bottom with mustard, lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and cheesed patty (interchanging with alternatives like sliced tomato, beetroot, etc., per personal preference). Dollop with tomato sauce (or other chosen condiments like horseradish or mayonnaise) and cover with the bun tops.
Serve immediately to enjoy a wholesome, flavorful homemade beef burger.
