Toyota Partners with Haas F1 Team to Mark Their Return to Formula 1
Toyota, after a 15-year hiatus, is set to make a remarkable comeback to Formula 1 in collaboration with the US-based Haas F1 Team, becoming their "technical partner". This strategic partnership, announced at the Toyota-owned Fuji International Speedway, will include a comprehensive exchange of expertise, knowledge, and resources between the two entities, showcasing Toyota Gazoo Racing's design and manufacturing capabilities, Formula 1 reported.
Starting with the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, from October 18-20, Toyota's branding will be prominently featured on the Haas cars driven by Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. This collaboration aims to leverage Toyota's history as a works team and engine supplier, focusing on the development and competitiveness of the Haas team within the Formula 1 landscape while honing Toyota's own technical prowess.
Toyota had exited Formula 1 in 2009 after eight challenging years. During this time, the company attained 13 podiums but struggled to surpass fourth place in the constructors' championship, despite having substantial financial backing. Their renewed presence in the sport is perceived as a means to reinforce their influence globally and overcome Honda's prevailing advantage in attracting top-tier Japanese talent.
Haas will maintain its existing partnership with Ferrari, continuing with their power-unit supply until 2028. However, this new alliance with Toyota promises mutual growth, as articulated by Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu: "Collaborating with such a prestigious name in the automotive sector offers obvious benefits. We will gain from Toyota Gazoo Racing's technical excellence, which will be vital for our expansion ambitions."
Echoing the sentiment, Tomoya Takahashi, President of Toyota Gazoo Racing, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, believing it would cultivate drivers, engineers, and mechanics and enhance their capabilities. The association reflects a shared commitment to achieving continued success in Formula 1, positioning both Haas and Toyota for brighter future endeavors.
