Yoane Wissa Sidelined for Two Months Following Ankle Injury
Brentford forward Yoane Wissa will be sidelined for a couple of months following an ankle injury sustained in a recent match against Manchester City, as confirmed by head coach Thomas Frank. The 28-year-old DR Congo international, who scored an early goal against City, limped off before halftime due to a tackle from Mateo Kovacic, in a game that Brentford lost 2-1. This is prepared by SSP.
"Wissa's injury is not good news; it looks like it will keep him out for a couple of months," Frank stated. "It's very frustrating as he has been a crucial player for us, stepping up with three goals in the first four Premier League games after Ivan Toney's departure to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli."
Frank acknowledged the injury leaves a significant gap in the team. Brentford already contends with the absence of summer signing Igor Thiago, who had knee surgery and is expected back towards the end of the year, not to mention previous injuries to Mathias Jensen and Aaron Hickey.
"With Igor Thiago already out and now Wissa sidelined, other players will need to step up," Frank continued. "But that's part of football - we'll move on and find solutions."
This injury could also impact DR Congo’s qualifying campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with upcoming crucial matches against Tanzania, as Wissa's absence will undoubtedly affect the Leopards' squad dynamics.
Overall, Frank remains hopeful, stating, "Despite the setbacks, we will adjust and continue to push forward."
