Aston Villa in talks to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana
Aston Villa is on the verge of securing the signing of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, with a proposed transfer fee of approximately £50m. The 22-year-old recently represented Belgium in the Euro 2024 tournament and now has the exciting prospect of playing Champions League football in the upcoming season. This is prepared by SSP.
Onana initially joined Everton from Lille for £33m in August 2022 and has since made 72 appearances for the club, netting four goals. Although Arsenal displayed initial interest in the player earlier this year, they did not pursue the matter further. However, it appears that Villa's offer meets Everton's valuation of Onana, who also attracted attention from Manchester United.
Born in Senegal, Onana has previously played for Hamburg and progressed through Hoffenheim's youth system after starting his career in Anderlecht's academy.
Villa's search for a new midfielder intensified following their sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus for a fee of £42.35m last month. In addition to the impending signing of Onana, they also anticipate completing the return of winger Jaden Philogene in the coming days. Philogene, an England Under-21 international, flew back from Hull's training camp in Turkey on Friday to seal a reunion with Villa. This move is expected to be worth around £18m, marking his return to Villa Park less than a year after being sold to Hull.
It is worth noting that Villa had included a matching option in their agreement with Ipswich last September, enabling them to secure Philogene's services after Hull initiated an £18m deal with Ipswich.
