Brest Loses to PSG as Dembele Seals the Game With Two Goals
Ousmane Dembele scored two goals as Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) rallied to defeat Brest and maintain their flawless start to the Ligue 1 season. PSG now leads the standings with four wins in as many games, effectively managing the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid and amassing 16 goals overall. This is prepared by SSP.
The match saw Brest initially in the lead when Romain Del Castillo converted a penalty following a foul by Nuno Mendes on Ludovic Ajorque. However, Dembele tormented Brest's defense throughout, equalizing right before halftime by heading in Marco Asensio's cross. Despite a resilient performance by Brest's goalkeeper Marco Bizot, two quick goals in the second half from Fabian Ruiz and Dembele ultimately sealed the game for PSG. Ruiz's stunning strike and Dembele’s follow-up after a blocked effort by Randal Kolo Muani within 80 seconds handed PSG a decisive 3-1 victory.
Elsewhere, Marseille celebrated their 125th anniversary with a 2-0 triumph over Nice, remaining just two points behind PSG. New striker Neal Maupay, debuting against his former club, scored the opening goal after converting a deflected cross from Luis Henrique. Despite Nice striking the woodwork multiple times, they couldn't find the net, thanks partly to the commendable efforts of Marseille’s goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. Marseille closed the match with ten men following Derek Cornelius' second yellow card, but preserved their clean sheet with resilient defense.
With these results, PSG continues to assert dominance in Ligue 1, topping the table and staying ahead of both Marseille and Monaco, while the other teams look to close the gap as the season progresses.
