Brighton Sign Georginio Rutter in Club-Record £40m Deal
Brighton & Hove Albion has completed the signing of French forward Georginio Rutter from Leeds United for a club-record fee of £40 million, securing him on a five-year contract. The 22-year-old, who had previously moved to Leeds from Hoffenheim for a then-record of £36 million, scored eight goals in 66 appearances for the West Yorkshire club since January 2023. This is prepared by SSP.
Brighton's technical director, David Weir, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, highlighting Rutter's strong technical skills and potential for development. Similarly, manager Fabian Hurzeler, noted Rutter’s ability to energize fans and praised his performances at Leeds and Hoffenheim.
Despite Leeds' efforts to retain Rutter, his release clause was activated, leading him to participate in Leeds' Championship opener against Portsmouth and his final appearance in the League Cup tie against Middlesbrough. Brighton, fresh from a 3-0 victory at Everton, is set to face Manchester United in their next Premier League match on Saturday.
