Chelsea Agree on Joao Felix, With Conor Gallagher Moving to Atletico
Chelsea has finalized the acquisition of Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix in a deal allowing Conor Gallagher to join the Spanish club. The undisclosed fee for 24-year-old Portugal international Felix will enable him to secure a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with an option for an additional year. Felix, who scored four goals in 20 appearances during a loan at Chelsea in 2023, will undergo a medical soon. This is prepared by SSP.
Gallagher, meanwhile, has been prepped for a five-year contract at Atletico. The England midfielder was left in limbo, training alone after Chelsea's proposed move for Atletico striker Samu Omorodion fell through, stalling Gallagher's £33 million transfer to Madrid. However, Felix’s move reignites Gallagher's transition to Atletico, where he was spotted last week before returning to London.
Chelsea agreed to terms potentially going up to £46.3 million for Felix, including £4.3 million in add-ons. He is expected to have a medical on Tuesday. Atletico will use funds received from Chelsea to finalize Gallagher's move. Felix wasn't in Atletico's squad for Monday’s LaLiga game against Villarreal.
£36 million deal for Gallagher was initially jeopardized but Atletico persisted, showcasing his capabilities during an extended stay in Madrid. He completed his medical and agreed on a contract earlier.
Joao Felix previously played for Barcelona, scoring 10 goals in 44 appearances last season. He originally joined Atletico from Benfica in 2019 for £113 million, marking him as the fifth most expensive player.
