Chelsea Clinches Deal for Wolves Winger Pedro Neto
Chelsea has secured a transfer deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Pedro Neto, valued at €63m (£54m), including an initial €60m (£51.4m) and an additional €3m (£2.6m) in potential add-ons, The Athletic reported. The Portugal winger is set to complete a medical imminently and will push Chelsea's summer spending beyond £200m.
After having two previous bids rejected, the Blues successfully negotiated the deal this past week. Neto, 24, who has been with Wolves since 2019 and has made 135 appearances with 14 goals to his name, is poised to become Wolves' record sale, surpassing Ruben Neves' move to Al-Hilal for £47m last summer.
Neto, linked earlier with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, has had notable performances despite fitness issues, tallying nine assists and two goals from 20 games last season. The transfer strengthens Chelsea's roster, making Neto the ninth acquisition of the club’s active summer window.
Summer Signings and Future Plans
Chelsea has already signed various new players this summer, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, and Tosin Adarabioyo. They also plan to finalize a £38m deal for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion and a £17m agreement for goalkeeper Mike Penders, who will likely return to Genk on loan.
With these deals, Chelsea will have spent over £240m this summer and added 12 new signings to their squad. Concurrently, they have regained approximately £90m from the sales of Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, and Omari Hutchinson, and Conor Gallagher is anticipated to join Atletico Madrid for £33m.
If Neto, Omorodion, and Penders join, this will elevate Chelsea’s senior squad list to around 50 players. Clubs must narrow their rosters to a 25-player limit after each transfer window closes, although there's flexibility for utilizing under-21 players.
