GB Keely Hodgkinson Wins 800m Gold At Paris Olympics
Keely Hodgkinson clinched Britain's first athletics gold at the Paris Olympics, triumphing in the women's 800m final. The 22-year-old, who had dominated the event this season, crossed the line in 1:56.72, ahead of Ethiopia's Tsige Duguma (1:57.15) and Kenya's Mary Moraa (1:57.42). Hodgkinson, demonstrating poise and control from start to finish, ended her wait for a global title after securing second place in successive World Championships and a silver on her Olympic debut in Tokyo 2021. This is prepared by SSP.
Upon finishing, Hodgkinson displayed her exuberance, celebrating with a lap of honor while gripping a union flag and interacting with fans. "I'm super happy... I’m now the Olympic champion for the next four years and no one can take that away from me," she expressed. This victory places her in a distinguished group, becoming only the 10th British woman to win athletics gold in Olympic history, and the first since Jessica Ennis-Hill in 2012 and Kelly Holmes' 800m gold 20 years ago.
Additionally, Great Britain's impressive performance at the Games continued, with the women's cycling sprint team setting three world records en route to gold in the velodrome, and earlier in the day, silver and bronze medals were clinched by Joe Clarke and Kimberley Woods in kayak cross, as well as a bronze in the mixed triathlon relay.
