Crispy and delightful on the outside, soft and tender on the inside with a hint of delightful spices - falafels are a sought-after culinary experience. Whether you're a vegetarian or a meat-eater, these protein and fiber-rich bite-sized delights are simply irresistible. This is prepared by SSP.
If your previous attempts at making falafels didn't quite hit the mark, then you've come to the right recipe. While traditional falafel recipes call for soaked, dried chickpeas, here is a clever alternative using canned chickpeas, flour, and egg white for excellent binding.
Ingredients:
- 1 brown onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 2 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 x 400g cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
- 1/3 cup plain flour- 1 egg white
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Tabouli, for serving
- Yoghurt, for serving
- Lavash bread, for serving
Step 1: Preparation
In a food processor, combine the chopped onion, garlic, ground coriander, cumin seeds, canned chickpeas, parsley leaves, flour, egg white, salt, and pepper. Process the mixture until it becomes almost smooth. Now, using floured hands, shape the mixture into four 2cm-thick patties. Place the patties on a plate, cover, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Cooking
Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the prepared patties in the pan and cook them for approximately 4 to 5 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and are thoroughly cooked.
Step 3: Serving
Once cooked, serve the falafel patties alongside tabouli, yoghurt, and lavash bread. Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors and textures!
