Jürgen Klopp Rejects Speculation of Becoming England's New Manager
Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, has firmly dismissed the possibility of taking charge as the new England manager, The Guardian reported. Amid speculations linking Klopp to fill the vacancy left by Gareth Southgate, he expressed that accepting the position right after leaving Liverpool for a much-needed break would result in the "biggest loss of face in the history of football."
Speaking at the International Coaches' Congress in Germany, Klopp emphasized that he is currently not considering any job offers from clubs or national teams. He expressed his desire to continue working in football and helping others with his experience and connections, but coaching the English national team is not on his agenda at the moment.
It is worth noting that Eddie Howe, the Newcastle United manager, has also been linked to the vacant role. Howe, however, confirmed that he has not had any contact with the Football Association regarding the position. Additionally, Lee Carsley, the manager of England's Under-21 team, Graham Potter, the former Chelsea and Brighton manager, and Thomas Tuchel, most recently in charge of Bayern Munich, have been mentioned as potential candidates.
Klopp's decision to step away from coaching after his successful stint at Liverpool, where he achieved remarkable success including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles, speaks to his current focus on taking a break. While he did not rule out a return to coaching in the future, Klopp stated that there are currently no concrete plans.
As England looks towards the 2026 World Cup in North America and Mexico, the process of finding Southgate's successor begins. Regardless of who takes the helm, their primary objective will be to guide the national team through the qualification stage successfully.
Liverpool, meanwhile, has appointed Arne Slot from Feyenoord as Klopp's replacement. Klopp's legacy at the club will undoubtedly be remembered for the immense achievements and contributions to its rich history.
