Keely Hodgkinson to Miss Remainder of 2024 Athletics Season Due to Injury
Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson will miss the remainder of the 2024 athletics season due to injury, The Independent reported. The 22-year-old athlete, who had secured victory in all nine of her 800m races this year, including a gold at the Paris Games earlier in the month, was scheduled to compete in the Diamond League finals in Brussels in September.
Hodgkinson shared the news on Instagram: "No more races for me. Unfortunately, I picked up a small injury, but we achieved everything I hoped to do this year. Thank you for all the love and support. See you on the track next year."
Her notable achievements include defending her European 800m title and setting a new national record of one minute and 54.61 seconds at the London Diamond League in July. Hodgkinson has her eye on breaking the women's 800m world record, a longstanding benchmark of 1:53.28.
Looking ahead, Hodgkinson also aims for her first World Championship title in Tokyo in September 2025, having previously secured silver over the past two years.
