Liverpool Sign Juventus Winger Federico Chiesa
Liverpool have completed the signing of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa for £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million in performance-based add-ons, BBC reported. Chiesa, 26, is set to arrive at the club on a four-year deal, marking the first acquisition under new manager Arne Slot.
The Italian forward, who starred in Italy's Euro 2020 final victory against England at Wembley, expressed his enthusiasm about joining Liverpool. "I'm thrilled to be part of Liverpool. When Richard Hughes contacted me and the coach followed up, I immediately agreed because I understand the history and significance of this club to its supporters," Chiesa shared on the club's website. "I'm eager to start this new adventure."
Chiesa has had an impactful career at Juventus, netting 32 goals in 131 appearances, including 10 goals in 37 matches last season. Despite his promising debut, where he was recognized in both the Euro 2020 and Serie A teams of the year, he experienced a decline in form following a serious knee injury in January 2022 that required surgery.
Liverpool believes Chiesa's addition will bolster their squad, despite his recent challenges. Newly-appointed Juventus coach, Thiago Motta, had already excluded Chiesa from his initial matchday squads of the season. With his contract at Juventus set to expire in the summer of 2025, Chiesa was no longer in the club’s plans, leading them to capitalize on his departure.
