Newcastle United Defender Kieran Trippier's Future Uncertain
Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier is looking to leave St. James' Park this month to secure regular first-team football, BBC reported. The 33-year-old England international, who was an unused substitute in Newcastle’s recent 1-0 win over Southampton, is currently behind Tino Livramento in the pecking order for the right-back position.
Trippier, who joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 as the Tynesiders’ first signing under the new ownership, has been a pivotal player for the club. However, recent changes including manager Eddie Howe's decision to select Livramento and hand the captain's armband to Bruno Guimaraes have contributed to Trippier's desire to leave.
Despite having two years remaining on his current contract following a renewed deal last season, Trippier is now seeking new opportunities. He aims to find a club that can offer him the regular playing time he desires.
Just this past January, Newcastle prevented Trippier from departing amidst interest from Bayern Munich and clubs in Saudi Arabia. Currently, Everton, led by Sean Dyche – who managed Trippier from 2012 to 2015 at Burnley – is publicly showing interest. The Merseyside club, needing to fill the gap left by the recently suspended Ashley Young, has initiated talks for a potential loan move. Asked about the possibility in a news conference, Dyche remarked on the coincidence of Trippier's name appearing just when Everton lacks a right-back.
Adding to this, Trippier was initially pivotal in England’s Euro 2024 campaign, starting in the first six matches but later being replaced by Luke Shaw for the final game.
