Palace Set to Secure Ismaila Sarr Signing from Marseille for £12.5m
Crystal Palace is poised to secure the signature of Ismaila Sarr, who previously played for Watford, from Marseille at a relatively low cost of approximately £12.5m, BBC reported.
The 26-year-old winger is expected to commit to a five-year contract with Selhurst Park. Sarr made an impact during his time at Watford, scoring an impressive 34 goals in 131 appearances. He carried forward his strong performance to Marseille, contributing with five goals and six assists across various competitions last season.
In addition to his club achievements, Sarr has proven himself on the international stage with Senegal. He has netted 13 goals in 64 caps and played a significant role in Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2021. The winger has also represented his country in two World Cups.
The acquisition of Sarr comes as Palace seeks to fill the void left by Michael Olise, who recently transferred to Bayern Munich. Olise's departure resulted in a £50m windfall for the club. Palace has been proactive in the summer transfer market, bringing in additions such as Daichi Kamada, a 27-year-old Japanese midfielder acquired on a free transfer from Lazio, and Chadi Riad, a Moroccan player with three national team caps, in a £14m deal from Real Betis.
The arrival of Sarr adds a new dimension to Palace's attacking options and bolsters their chances in the quest for European qualification. With their budget boosted by the Olise transfer, the club may still prioritize bringing in additional talent to further strengthen their squad.
