Real Madrid Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga Sidelined with Knee Injury
Real Madrid’s French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga (21) will miss the UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta and the initial part of the season due to a knee injury sustained during training at Warsaw's National Stadium on Tuesday, BBC reported.
Camavinga twisted his knee after catching his studs in the ground and colliding with team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni. Following the incident, the results from medical examinations confirmed that Camavinga had sprained the internal collateral ligament in his left knee.
Although Real Madrid has not officially set a timeframe for his recovery, reports suggest that the club expects him to be sidelined for up to seven weeks.
In his first season with Real Madrid, Camavinga featured in 46 matches across all competitions, contributing to the team's La Liga and Champions League victories. Before the injury, he also represented France in four games at EURO 2024.
Real Madrid faces Europa League winners Atalanta in the Super Cup on Wednesday, a game that will witness Kylian Mbappe's much-anticipated competitive debut following his transfer from Paris St-Germain. The club will start defending their La Liga title against Mallorca at the Bernabeu on 18 August.
