Revolutionary Storage Hack: Keep Store-Bought Herbs Fresh for Weeks
Cooking with fresh herbs adds an undeniable charm to any dish, providing a burst of flavor and a refined visual appeal that elevates home-cooked meals to restaurant-quality. However, the challenge lies in preserving these herbs, especially when time and space constraints make growing your own herbs impractical. Unfortunately, store-bought herbs tend to spoil quickly. This is prepared by SSP.
Fortunately, a simple yet effective method exists to keep these herbs fresh for weeks. TikTok user Bel (@hey.itsbel), known for her popular culinary hacks, shared this technique, amassing over 24 million likes on her account.
In her video, Bel demonstrates this storage hack using parsley. She begins by separating the leaves from the stems, then thoroughly rinses them in a sieve. "Removing the stems is optional, but I prefer to do this to inspect and discard any spoiled parts as they can expedite the spoiling process," Bel explains.
Subsequently, Bel lays out four paper towels on her kitchen worktop. After allowing the excess water from the herbs to be absorbed by blotting gently with another sheet, she explains, "The aim is to have the paper towel damp but not excessively wet." She carefully wraps the herbs in the damp paper towel and places them into a sandwich bag.
By storing the neatly packaged herbs in the fridge, Bel assures that her method can extend their freshness by up to three weeks, proving to be a game-changing technique for herb enthusiasts without costing a dime.
This inventive solution addresses the common dilemma faced by many cooks, offering an easy and cost-free way to maintain the longevity of store-bought herbs, ensuring your dishes always benefit from their fresh, vibrant flavors.
