Shakur Stevenson Signs with Matchroom Boxing

Three-weight world champion Shakur Stevenson has signed a new promotional deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing, Boxing Scene reported. The WBC lightweight champion, who is undefeated with 22 wins and 10 knockouts, will defend his title against Joe Cordina on October 12 during the Riyadh Season card in Saudi Arabia.

"I am excited to start this next chapter of my career, beginning with Joe Cordina," Stevenson said. "I am ready for the biggest names and fights in boxing. Bring on William Zepeda in 2025 and anyone willing to step into the ring with me."

Hearn holds high expectations for Stevenson, calling him a "pound-for-pound great" and expressing confidence in elevating Stevenson's career to global stardom. Stevenson, now 27, has already achieved world titles in the featherweight, super-featherweight, and lightweight divisions. He also won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

"We will be unstoppable both in and out of the ring. With Matchroom and Riyadh Season supporting me, I will dominate boxing for many years to come," Stevenson affirmed.

Previously promoted by Top Rank, Stevenson's career took a turn after his unanimous decision victory against Artem Harutyunyan. This win followed a brief period of retirement where Stevenson refuted claims of being a lackluster fighter. It was after turning down a five-fight, $15 million deal from Top Rank that Stevenson chose Matchroom, driven by promises of career-defining fights, escalating his pursuit of higher-profile clashes potentially against stars like Gervonta Davis, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, and Teofimo Lopez Jr.

"This young man is ready to become a global superstar, and with Matchroom behind him, he will achieve all the big fights and recognition he deserves," Hearn stated.
