Tebogo Triumphs in Rome Diamond League 100m
Botswana's Letsile Tebogo claimed a noteworthy victory in the 100m at the Rome Diamond League meet, clocking 9.87 seconds, BBC reported. Previously finishing sixth in the same event at the Paris Olympics, he confidently eased up and glanced back for the win, describing it as one of his best races yet. Former world champions Christian Coleman and Fred Kerley from the United States followed in second at 9.92 seconds and third at 9.95 seconds, respectively. Home crowd favorite Marcell Jacobs, victorious in the Tokyo Games, finished ninth with a disappointing 10.20 seconds, citing a deliberately slower pace to avoid injury.
In the women's events, Daryll Neita, a British 4x100m silver medalist in Paris, secured third place in the 200m with a time of 22.46 seconds. The race was dominated by America's Brittany Brown, who won in 22.00 seconds. Bahrain's Winfred Yavi ran the second-fastest time recorded in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at 8:44.39 seconds, narrowly missing the world record from 2018 due to a slight misstep on the final hurdle. Yavi expressed her anticipation to break the record soon.
Additionally, in the women’s 100m hurdles, Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent set a national record by winning at 12.24 seconds. Meanwhile, American Ryan Crouser, a three-time Olympic champion, set a meeting record in the men's shot put at 22.79m, outperforming Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri.
Also noteworthy, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon celebrated victory in the 1500m, finishing in 3:52.89. She attributed the pace to recent Olympic fatigue but remains a contender for breaking her own world record in the future.
