The Cache County Sheriff's Office received reports on Saturday afternoon indicating that a young man had dived from the reservoir's cliffs and had not resurfaced. Authorities immediately initiated a search, ultimately leading to the recovery of Seldon's body by a dive team at approximately 9:05 p.m., according to Utah State University.

Seldon had recently joined the Utah State football program after transferring from New Mexico State, where he had played for two seasons.
