iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence releasing soon: Why it’s special for iPhones
Apple is set to launch iOS 18.1 on October 28, 2024, bringing the first wave of Apple Intelligence features, as leaked by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Although the new AI capabilities were initially expected in early October, the release was postponed to optimize cloud server traffic management. This update will introduce advanced features for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 groups, such as Writing Tools, Smart Replies, a redesigned Siri, Notifications Summary, and a powerful Clean Up tool in Photos designed to remove unwanted elements using generative AI.
However, iPhone 15 users won't receive these initial AI features. The iOS 18.2 update, scheduled for December, will introduce features like ChatGPT support and Genmoji. Another major update to Siri, focused on delivering personalized responses, is planned for early 2025, following the feature rollout for U.S. English on October 28. Users in the UK and EU might experience installation delays or limited feature access due to language and regional considerations.
The ongoing AI rollout coincides with the launch of iPhone 16, which Apple markets as a device tailored for Apple Intelligence, albeit with limited capabilities at the outset. Despite criticism over the timing of the AI release, Apple continues to address this criticism by emphasizing long-term enhancements with features set to roll out into 2025.
