Samsung May Bring Changes to the Galaxy Z Flip 6's Cover Screen
Reports suggest that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 might surprise users with a notable downgrade: the cover screen could feature an IPS LCD panel instead of the usual AMOLED display. This change has raised eyebrows online since AMOLED displays typically offer higher-quality visuals, including vibrant colors and energy efficiency.
The leaked specs sheet indicates that the cover screen on the Z Flip 6 will have a 3.4-inch size with a resolution of 720 x 748, similar to its predecessor, the Z Flip 5. However, industry experts at Tom's Guide have put forth two reasons for this unexpected move. Firstly, LCD panels are less prone to screen burn, thus ensuring a longer screen lifespan. This factor might be appealing to Samsung as they aim for increased durability. Secondly, LCD displays are cheaper to produce compared to OLED displays. Speculations regarding a price increase to $1,099 for the Z Flip 6 may explain the company's motive to generate additional revenue through cost-effective choices.
Contradicting these claims, SamMobile—an online source—has challenged the idea, asserting that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will indeed retain the AMOLED cover screen. According to SamMobile, the leak initially resulted from a typo made by a Samsung employee. Considering the lack of clarity surrounding SamMobile's source information, it is difficult to assess the veracity of their claims.
In other potential upgrades, leaked marketing materials shared by insider Evan Blass suggest that Samsung plans to improve the Interpreter mode on both the Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. Interpreter mode facilitates multilingual conversations by translating spoken words into text. According to the leaked materials, Samsung aims to utilize the outer screens of these devices to display translations, eliminating the need for flipping the phone during conversations. This feature seems to be available in Flex Mode, wherein the device is opened halfway.
The upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled for July 10, promises to unveil all the capabilities of these new Samsung smartphones. We await further information on these devices, so make sure to stay tuned for exciting updates.
