Former Royal Air Force pilot who never got to fly finally takes to the skies at the age of 90

Malcolm Shedlow, a veteran of the Royal Air Force from Leeds in North Yorkshire, recently flew from Leeds Bradford Airport to Bergerac in France on a Jet2 aircraft, his first ever flight.

The man fulfilled his lifelong dream by finally taking to the skies for the first time at the age of 90, the SSPDaily reports.

At the airport, Malcom was met by the airline's customer service staff, who supported him throughout the journey, explaining the flight process and making it as easy as possible.

After landing in France, Malcolm's granddaughter informed crew member Tina Murphy that it was his first flight. To make the occasion even more special, Tina presented Malcolm with a souvenir of one of the airline's first certificates and arranged for him to visit the cockpit and take pictures.

Although Malcolm has never taken to the skies himself, his first experience with airplanes dates back to his 70 years in the Royal Air Force. After the Second World War, Malcolm performed clerical duties during the National Service.

"My job was to help pilots fly, although I had never been in an airplane, but that has changed now. I really enjoyed the flight, it was an incredible experience. I'm looking forward to flying with Jet2 again next year as they have whetted my appetite for flying. I certainly won't wait another 90 years to take my second flight," he said.
