Major iPhone 16 Leak Hints at Significant Upgrades
Multiple leaks and rumors have surrounded the upcoming iPhone 16 launch, expected in September. According to sources familiar with AppleInsider, all iPhone 16 models will receive significant camera upgrades. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are set to maintain a 48 megapixel primary camera with an f/1.6 aperture and 2x optical zoom, but their ultrawide lenses will be upgraded from an f/2.4 to an f/2.2 aperture, allowing for sharper shots. For the first time, macro photography will be supported. Additionally, the cameras will be arranged vertically to facilitate spatial video recording.
Going Pro
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will continue to feature a triple-lens system. Key upgrades include a 12MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom appearing on both Pro models, and the ultrawide lens will jump from 12MP to 48MP, incorporating pixel binning and ProRAW support. Newly anticipated features include JPEG-XL photo format and 3K video recording at 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision support. A new Capture button will also support half-press and slide actions, enhancing flexibility within camera apps.
Design, Release, and Other Features
Apple is likely to unveil the iPhone 16 in the first half of September, continuing its tradition from previous years. New models may drop nearly two weeks later on September 20. Select iPhone 16 models are rumored to feature innovative screen technologies, resulting in thinner bezels and potentially larger display areas. Enhanced displays are expected initially in Pro models, trickling down to other versions later.
AI-powered features will mark the software differentiation in the iPhone 16 series. These involve power-efficient displays, action buttons, and multiple advanced AI capabilities aimed at competing with rival offerings from brands like Google and Samsung.
Colors and Configurations
Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, suggests updated color options for the new iPhones. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus should arrive in black, blue, green, pink, and white, with the Pro versions displaying those same colors in addition to rose, replacing the previous blue model. Historically popular choices such as white, natural, pink, and black finishes are maintained for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max in titanium.
