Scientists to study a fragment of the "most dangerous" asteroid Bennu: it may collide with Earth
The fragments of the asteroid Bennu, which the US space agency NASA has called the most dangerous object in the solar system, have been delivered to the UK.
The tiny pieces of stone and dust from the object called Bennu are awaiting a series of tests and experiments at the London Museum of Natural History, as well as at the Open, Manchester and Oxford universities, the SSPDaily reports.
Professor Sara Russell of the Natural History Museum described the asteroid piece as a small but significant donation to the US space agency, calling it "a hundred milligrams of beauty."
NASA's Osiris-Rex spacecraft took a sample on the surface of the 500-meter asteroid Bennu in 2020. The capsule with the extracted material landed in the desert of the US state of Utah two months ago.
NASA is very interested in this asteroid, in particular because it has a chance to collide with our planet in the next 300 years. That is why it is called the most dangerous object in our planetary system.
